Hey developers, if you want your new program in the App Store for the grand opening of Apple’s App Store for the iPhone, you need to get it to Apple by July 7th. Apple set the date yesterday, and it is most likely in place so that all Applications will be approved and ready for the launch. I can’t imagine Apple wants any buggy latecomers on July 10th, so be sure to send those puppies away on time. I’m really excited for the July release, and can’t wait to relock my jailbroken iPhone and fill it with optimized non-buggy goodies.

Back in March, Steve Jobs announced that as part of the proverbial “Developer Road-map,” the iPhone Firmware 2.0 would be released sometime in late June. We posted about this in an earlier post, which speculated the date to be June 27th (this Friday).

I was one of the many people who preceded to hack my iPhone right after getting it. After using the Installer application to download many applications, I decided that my favorite of all were those that could be used to make music, particularly those coming from Moo Cow Music . I was even more happy when I learned that Moo Cow Music would be coming officially with the iPhone Firmware 2.0 during Apple’s WWDC Keynote. But enough about my personal excitement.

To control it you use your fingers. There are several instruments available; five in the Band application (which allows you to record and use a mentronome), and three seperate piano, drums, and guitar applications. My favorite is the first one pictured, which is a dance pad that lets you make some nice trance tunes. We might be expecting the iPhone Firmware 2.0 as early as June 27th, so hopefully those of you that are holding out on hacking your first generation iPhone will finally be able to experience all the fun I’ve been having. Check out this video for more musical awesomeness.

Need a portable projector for your iPod or iPhone? Neither do I, I was just asking. In case you did though, theres one coming out called the QingBar MP101 from a the company Honlai Technology. It was shown off as a prototype at the Computex Taipei 2008, and judging from the photos it looks pretty interesting. This device would be useful for business presentations and the such, since it is potable. It would mean you would be able to use your iPhone to demonstrate video, and even use some of the Enterprise applications that are coming out with the Firmware 2.0. You can check out the specs right here:

The iPhone 3G is here!

After the the endless rumors that surfaced over the last few months, the iPhone G3 is finally here. As I listened to a live feed of the WWDC conference I wrote down some details and revised them after Apple posted information on their website. Check it out:

  • GPS
  • 3G Cellular Network
  • ActiveSync support
  • Push Email Support
  • AppStore
  • Parental Controls
  • Un-recessed headphone port
  • Side-view calculator
  • And much more…

These are all welcomed features and upgrades, but the biggest announcement of the day was the decreased in price. The iPhone 3G will be selling for $199 for the 8 gigabyte model. This almost makes me want to sell off my first generation iPhone to get a hold of this new one! I would, but I’ll have to wait since it isn’t being released until July 12.

There has been a lot of commotion lately around Apple rumor sites as the annual Apple World Wide Developer Conference approaches. As with tradition, Apple Inc. always unveils their newest products for the salivating masses. Most of this noise has been dealing with the upcoming releases of the iPhone Firmware 2.0, the fabled iPhone G3, and even more recently- word of a new Dot Mac like service for iPhone users. The recent mention of the new service comes from various Apple users finding evidence in the coding of Apple’s recent software updates, which contain evidence of this service. Another indicator of this oncoming service comes from the recent purchase of the domain name www.mobileme.com by Apple’s registar Mark Monitor. For many “Macheads”, this is seen as an interesting addition to Apple’s already existing iPhone lineup. Not much is known now about what this “MobileMe” service will entail, but as the June 9th Apple WWDC approaches more details are slowly coming our way.

I gladly welcome any service that will help me better use my precious iPhone. The only thing I ask is that it doesn’t come with the same price tag as Dot Mac currently does.
